This is the common name for Public Act 91-699 Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons Property Tax Relief and Pharmaceutical Assistance Act. Recent changes take effect January 1, 2008 include 1000 higher income qualifying limits so more seniors or disabled can take advantage of the benefits provided. The income qualifying amounts below have been edited for this change but please verify the accuracy with the Will County Supervisor of Assessments Office (815) 740-4648. Other changes include expanded number of diseases covered under the prescription drug program. Also reductions in the cost of the prescription card and charge per prescription. This program also provides low-income senior citizens with yearly grants to help pay property taxes. Maximum household qualifying income levels beginning for the 2008 grant year are $22,218 for a one-person household, $29480 for a two-person household, and $36,740 for households containing three or more persons. Returning Veteran's Homestead Exemption part of House Bill 664
Allows a 5,000 homestead exemption for the year in which they return from active duty, and a Disabled Veteran homestead exemption of between 2,500 and 5,000. This bill also creates a 2,000 disabled homestead exemption and allows property tax abatements to the surviving spouses of fallen police officers and emergency workers.
